Personal Teaching Philosophy
“Learn
something new every day. Good teachers are good students first”.
Since
1997 I strongly believe in 3Ls which I apply in my Teaching Practice
L1---
Love towards learning
L2---
Love towards students
L3---
Love towards teaching profession
Love
towards learning:
“In class talk less and listen more’. A big part of
teaching is learning from your students, peer group and adopt oneself to the
philosophy of the school where we work. ‘All teachers make mistakes. Good
teachers admit them’. I always like to be one among them.
The
places where I worked earlier I did not get enough opportunities to learn for
the growth of my profession. In Shishu Mandir learning became a part and
parcel of my daily life. I started to learn phonetics as a foundation for
reading and training in Hippo Campus to take care of our school library which
was a regular learning to me till now.
Then my interaction with TTF from the
year 2003 till 2014 is a boon for my teaching career when I learnt various
methodologies and teaching strategies through the sessions of Wipro Applying Thought, Touch Stone,
British Council-CiSELT and this
year coaching for School Success.
All these courses helped me to climb the steps gradually in the path of
learning.
This year our school got a chance to participate in
ISA project. In one of my lessons I planned to invite a hawker to our school
and the children interviewed her. This LOTC activity which I learnt from
the TTF training helped me to enhance this skill in this ISA project.
Love towards students:
Last year
2013-14 when I was the class teacher of class 4, it was a big challenge for me
when I faced with a boy Uday Kumar. He was psychologically affected with his
family situation as his mother burnt herself in front of him. She was bed
ridden for a year with her 60% burnt burns. In this situation the boy was
totally worried about his mom than his studies.
As a class teacher I showed him
the love and the concern which helped him to understand that our school is
there to solve his problem. With the help of all the teachers we could get him
back to school to continue his studies. This year whenever I see him I remember
the words of our former president Mr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam “If you are the
teacher in whatever capacity, you have a very special role to play because more
than anybody else it is you who are shaping the future generation”. Thus I believe
in change and I like to be a torch- bearer of the change.
Here is
an example of my first batch student Ms. Humrutha Gunasekar who gave her
feedback about me. I thank her for expressing her thoughts about me.

I had the pleasure of meeting my mentor as my first grade
teacher in 1997. Stella ma’am, right from my first grade until today has always
been my biggest pillar of support in my academics and in my life. I would like
to thank her for offering a very
constructive coaching in a very unique style and for her constant
guidance in every step of my career. Her
teaching was very precise and helped me to visualize and understand the basic
concepts practically in a lively and interacting classroom. She intended in stimulating
the creativity among pupils. This approach helped all her students, including
me, to boost their confidence level and made her a very loveable teacher
whom we all respect and cherish.
Stella Ma’am has always
encouraged a healthy competition among the students and took special care of
each student. Since my mother was working during my school days and usually
cannot make it to home early in the evening, I started staying with Stella
Ma’am in her home until my mother picks me up. So I do have a very personal
affection towards her. She taught me things beyond the book and shaped my
character. I feel proud to say that I still follow, and will always follow, the
moral values she taught me. She encouraged me to communicate in English with
her and helped me in developing my soft skills. She provided me a platform to
express my talents and explore the knowledge. She seeded the curiosity in me,
towards science and taught me to question everything happening around me to get
vast quanta of knowledge.
From my school days, she was
not only a teacher and mentor, but also like my family member. I take this
opportunity to mention a much cherished incident happened in my first grade.
Being my science instructor in my grade one, Stella ma’am taught me to draw a human
heart. Upon drawing, I started coloring it in red. When ma’am asked me the
reason to use red color, I replied, “I recognize the heart must be in red,
since its pumping blood, which itself is red in color”. She appreciated me a
lot for my reply and narrated this incident to my parents. She also mentioned
to my parents that I will shine brightly in my future.
My parents remember her as
the first person to identify the real talent in me. She is the perfect example
of all the qualities a teacher should possess. It’s my greatest pleasure to
mention that Stella ma’am was behind me in all my success and I hope she will
be there to encourage me in all my future missions. I sincerely wish that the
teaching service of Mrs. Stella Mary would reach and enlighten the minds of
many students for their bright and shining future.
Being flexible in my teaching profession is my
strength. The most precious gift to give to my profession is my time, which I
love to spend to each student every day. I do what’s right and just even if it
hurts for a little while.
As the
Bible says, “You are the light to the
world”. I also wanted my career as a light to the students with
whom I am involved. To build a winning
or interactive classroom – one child at a time helped me a lot to teach the
entire class only by focusing on individual learners. Being aware of my body
language sometimes my postures, gestures or facial expressions speak louder
than my words is very important to grab the students’ attention.
‘Sow a
thought, reap an action’
‘Sow an
action, reap a habit’
‘Sow a
habit, reap a character’
